About Us

The Art of the Himalayas specialises in the Thangka painting and is comprised of a group of artists, mostly Tamang, from the Himalayon region surrounding the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The artists have all come from the villages into Kathmandu to seek a better life. Some of them have come from a long lineage of artists within their family and continue the tradition of Thangka creations. Others have come to the profession by way of a necessity to earn a living.

As a collective we learn we grow we improve.

The Art of Himalayas is the commercial arm of the Dharmadhatu Foundation. This foundation is a non-profit organisation located in Boudha, Kathamandu, Nepal with its sister organisation in London, England. The foundations' main concern is to provide opportunities for a decent life for the people from the Kathmandu valley.
